The story of the hike
First we walk along Pala road. At the information board about bog drainage we turn onto a field-edge track and reach Alar Sikk's esker trail. From there we turn right and walk a couple of kilometres north-east along the esker ridge. The narrow, winding esker with its steep slopes and ever-changing terrain is the first real gem of the hike.
Then we descend from the esker into the bog, and the most exciting part of the hike begins. The path leads through a raised bog in its natural state to picturesque bog pools. The pools with their little islands are beautiful in any weather, and in summer there are good spots for a swim.
From the bog we reach the second esker, then a familiar crossroads, and follow forest roads back to Õnnela. One loop takes in a village road, a field edge, forest, two eskers of different character and an untouched raised bog.
Terrain and gear
The trail is short and physically easy, but in the bog we walk off the marked path.
